Description
The Indian Air Force Academy, Dundigal, is a Defence Service training institute located in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district of Telangana, India. Established in 1969, with its foundation stone laid in 1967 and operations commencing in 1971, the academy spans 7,050 acres. It serves as a central training facility for officers of the Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard. The academy imparts training to cadets from flying, technical, and ground duty branches. Flying training is divided into three stages, leading to specialization in fighter, helicopter, or transport aircraft. Graduates may serve in squadrons operating aircraft such as Rafale, Su-30MKI, MiG-29, MiG-21, Mirage 2000, Tejas, Il-76, C-17 Globemaster III, An-32, HS 748, Dornier 228, Dhruv, AH-64 Apache, and Mi-26. The academy also provides specialist training for administrative, air controlling, meteorological, logistics, accounts, and education branches. Additionally, it conducts Air Traffic Control Officers' training based on ICAO procedures adapted for military aviation, and Joint Services Training for cadets of the Flying, Air Traffic Control, and Ground Duty Branches. Officers from friendly foreign countries are also occasionally trained at the academy. The facility is owned by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, and operated by the Indian Air Force.
