Description
Gvardeyskoye, also known as Hvardiiske, is a military air base located in Hvardiiske, Simferopol Raion, in Russian-occupied Crimea, Ukraine. The history of aviation at this site dates back to the 1930s when Polikarpov Po-2s were operated from the base. It is currently under the control of the Russian Aerospace Forces and is part of the 4th Air and Air Defence Forces Army, Southern Military District. The base is home to the 37th Guards Composite Aviation Regiment, which operates Sukhoi Su-24M and Sukhoi Su-25SM/25UB aircraft. From 1990, the base was also home to the 43rd Independent Maritime Assault Aviation Regiment and came under the control of the Black Sea Fleet. The air base has been in continuous use since its construction in 1930.
