Description
Jammu Airport, officially known as Jammu Civil Enclave, is a domestic airport serving Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located 6.1 km (3.8 mi) south of the city centre and 14 km (8.7 mi) from the India–Pakistan border. The airport is owned by the Indian Air Force and operated by the Airports Authority of India, indicating its dual civilian and military usage. The asphalt runway, 18/36, is 2,042 meters (6,699 ft) long and 45 meters (148 ft) wide, capable of handling CAT I instrument landing system approaches. The apron provides space for three Airbus A320 and three Boeing 737 aircraft. Night flight operations commenced on July 23, 2021, following the completion of runway carpet construction and the installation of a runway approach light system, Instrument Landing System (ILS), CAT1 Lights, and PAPI. The airport has been subject to military-related incidents, including twin blasts at the IAF station on June 27, 2021, which injured two military personnel, and the crash of an Indian Army Heron Mk2 UAV into an IAF tower on April 10, 2025, injuring a DSC personnel.
