Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans, also known as Alvin Callender Field, is a United States military installation located in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. The base is owned by the Department of Defense and operated by the US Navy, under the control of Navy Region Southeast. It has been operational since December 13, 1957, following its construction between August 1954 and December 1957. The base's predecessor, NAS New Orleans, was located on the current site of the University of New Orleans's main campus until 1957.
NAS JRB New Orleans serves as a joint reserve base supporting various military and Coast Guard operations. It maintains a 24/7 operating schedule for the 159th Fighter Wing's NORAD air sovereignty and homeland defense requirements, as well as for Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans's search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, and port security missions.
Key units stationed at the base include Fighter Squadron Composite 204 (VFC-204) operating F-5N/F Tiger II aircraft, the 159th Fighter Wing (159 FW) of the Louisiana Air National Guard flying F-15C/D Eagle fighter aircraft, Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 54 (VR-54) with C-130T Hercules transport aircraft, and Detachment A, Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 773 (HMLA-773) utilizing UH-1Y and AH-1 Super Cobra helicopters. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans operates MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters from the base. Additional occupants include NCTAMS LANT Det New Orleans, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines, and the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
The airfield features two runways with Porus European Mix surfaces: runway 04/22 measures 3,048 meters (10,000 ft) and runway 14/32 measures 1,828.8 meters (6,000 ft).
