Description

Kalma Airport is a dual-use military and civilian facility located in Wonsan, Kangwon-do, North Korea. The site is owned by the North Korean government and serves as a base for the Korean People's Army Air Force while hosting civilian operations for Air Koryo.

The airfield was captured by the Republic of Korea Army Capital Division on October 10, 1950. During the Korean War, it operated under the designation K-25 and was utilized by the United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Air Wing, Marine Aircraft Group 12, and the United States Air Force Cargo Combat Command. Following the evacuation of UN forces in December 1950, the Blockade of Wonsan rendered the facility unusable for the remainder of the war. In July 2013, a modernization program was initiated to reconstruct the airfield, with construction largely executed by military personnel. The facility opened for commercial civilian flights in September 2015.

The infrastructure consists of two runways, one of which was converted from an original runway into a taxiway. The facility features an L-shaped terminal building completed in 2015, equipped with two jetbridges and an apron designed to accommodate 12 commercial aircraft. Beyond its military functions, the airport maintains scheduled civilian service to Pyongyang. The airport has also supported specific international flight operations, including services by Asiana Airlines and a 2018 mission by a United States Air Force C-17.
