Description
Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base, commonly known as La Carlota, is located near Caracas in Miranda, Venezuela. Named after the South American revolutionary Francisco de Miranda, the facility originally served private and tourist aviation. The air base was bombed during a coup attempt on November 27, 1992. In 2005, the installation was closed to public use. It served as the starting point for a national uprising in April 2019. On January 3, 2026, the facility was hit by the United States military as part of an operation to abduct President Nicolás Maduro. Current operations at the base are restricted to military purposes and aeromedic (EMS) flights.
