Description
Magong Air Base is located in Huxi, Penghu County, Taiwan, co-located with Penghu Airport. It was established in 1957 as a replacement for the Wude Airfield, which the Republic of China Air Force (ROCAF) determined was obsolete for the requirements of jet aircraft and heavy transports. The installation initially prioritized the transportation of military personnel and cargo. On August 1, 1977, the facility was designated a Type C airport. While the civil component was renamed from Magong Airport to Penghu Airport in 2018, the military installation remains designated as Magong Air Base.
The Republic of China Air Force operates the base. Stationed units include pilots and crews responsible for the interception of People's Republic of China (PRC) aircraft. Operational infrastructure includes an instrument landing system installed in June 2015. The base hosts units operating jet aircraft and heavy military transports.
