Description
Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport is situated in the Municipality of Hoče–Slivnica, five kilometers south of Maribor in the Styria region of Slovenia. The location was established in 1953 as Skoke, a grass airfield utilized by the regional aeroclub as a replacement for the Maribor Tezno site. The facility was expanded for international traffic in 1976 with the addition of an asphalt runway and opened for commercial operations in May of that year. During the Yugoslav period, the airport supported scheduled services by JAT to Belgrade, Tivat, Dubrovnik, and Split, as well as international flights to Cairo by Misr Overseas Airways. The facility received its current name in 2008.
The airport is owned by the Republic of Slovenia and has been managed by DRI upravljanje investicij, d.o.o. since July 2019. Its primary roles include international commercial aviation and flight training. The airport hosts Letalski center Maribor, a general aviation organization and flight school established in 1927.
Infrastructure includes a passenger terminal opened in 2012 with a capacity of 600,000 passengers per year. The airport is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS CAT I). Operational facilities include an apron renovated in 2000 and a distribution transformer station updated in 2005. Letalski center Maribor maintains an inventory of aircraft, ultralights, and gliders at the facility. Road access to the site is provided by the A1 and A4 motorways.
