Description
PAF Base Bholari is a Main Operating Base of the Pakistan Air Force located in the Jamshoro District of Sindh, northeast of Karachi. The facility is controlled by the Southern Air Command and hosts the 41st Tactical Wing. Its mission includes supporting armed forces operations in southern regions and safeguarding the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The site was originally constructed as a wartime emergency airfield by the British Raj in 1942. It was inherited by the Royal Pakistan Air Force in 1947 and utilized as a satellite base for several decades. In November 1979, Air Headquarters proposed transforming the site into a Main Operating Base, though the plan was not realized until the project received approval in July 2014. Development was managed by the Bholari Development Board under Project Shahbaz, with construction beginning in December 2015. The base was inaugurated on December 25, 2017.
The installation hosts the 18 OCU "Sharp Shooters," 19 OCU "Sherdils," and the 53 AEW&C Squadron "Hawks." Aircraft types operating at the base include squadrons of F-16s and JF-17s, as well as Saab 2000 Erieye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft. Infrastructure includes specialized hangars for the maintenance and housing of airborne electronic warfare and jamming aircraft.
