Description
Prague-Kbely Air Base is located in the Kbely district of northeast Prague. Established in 1918, it was the first Czechoslovak military airfield and the first airport in the Czech Republic. It functioned as the primary airport for Prague until the opening of Ruzyně Airport in 1937. During the inter-war period, the installation was the home base for Czechoslovak Airline (ČLS) and Czechoslovak Airlines (ČSA). The first scheduled flight from the facility departed for Bratislava in October 1923.
The base is operated by the Czech Air Force. Current operations include military transport and the transport of Czech government officials via VIP aircraft. Facilities at the airport include the Kbely Aviation Museum, which houses a collection of 275 aircraft.
