Description

Sidi Slimane Air Base is located in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region of Morocco. Established in 1951 by Atlas Construction, the facility functioned as a Strategic Air Command forward deployment base for the United States Air Force. It supported B-50 Superfortress and B-47 Stratojet units as one of three SAC installations constructed in Morocco during the early Cold War. Initial military use began in July 1951 with the arrival of F-84E jet fighters from the 36th Fighter-Bomber Wing. During the 1950s, the Seventeenth Air Force utilized the base for regional air defense, stationing the 324th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron equipped with F-86D Sabres. The United States deactivated the base on 30 September 1963 and transferred control to the Moroccan government.

The installation is now operated by the Royal Moroccan Air Force and is designated as the Fifth Royal Air Force Base. It hosts Escadron de Chasse Atlas and Escadron de Chasse Assad. The base is the operational site for squadrons of Mirage F1 aircraft, including the Mirage F1EH-200 and Mirage F1CH variants.
