Description
Silvio Pettirossi Air Base is located in Luque, Paraguay, serving the capital city of Asunción. The facility was inaugurated on 11 June 1938. Between 1980 and 1989, the installation was designated President Stroessner International Airport before being renamed in honor of aviator Silvio Pettirossi.
The airfield is a joint-use facility shared with the Ñu-Guazú Air Force Base. It hosts the Grupo Aerotáctico (GAT) of the Paraguayan Air Force. The original passenger terminal, situated near threshold 02, is utilized by the Grupo Aerotáctico for its operations. Current infrastructure includes instrument landing systems updated in 2009. The installation supports military aviation requirements alongside international commercial traffic. Historical operations at the site include the Douglas C-47B.
