Description
Tulum International Airport, officially Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Carrillo Puerto, is located approximately 20 kilometres southwest of Tulum in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Construction of the facility began in 2022 under the direction of the Mexican army, and the airport commenced operations on December 1, 2023.
The facility is operated by Grupo Olmeca-Maya-Mexica, a holding company owned by the Mexican military. It functions as a dual-use airport supporting international and domestic commercial traffic, executive aviation, and military activities. The operation of the airport by the armed forces is part of a national strategy to involve the military in the management of infrastructure projects.
The airport infrastructure encompasses 1,200 hectares and includes a 70,000-square-metre passenger terminal. The apron contains 13 aircraft stands for narrow-body aircraft and hardstands for general aviation. The terminal layout provides 13 gates with direct apron access for passenger boarding. The facility is capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft. Additional infrastructure includes an Executive Aviation Terminal with lounges and dedicated services for general aviation. The site is integrated with the regional rail network via the Tulum Airport railway station.
