Description

Varna Airport is located 10 kilometers from Varna, Bulgaria, near the town of Aksakovo. Established on 9 May 1948, the site serves northeastern Bulgaria and the maritime region. In June 2006, the Bulgarian government awarded a 40-year concession for the facility to Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

The facility is state-owned and operated by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD. It serves as a base for domestic and international aviation, supporting flight operations to approximately 70 destinations. Carriers operating at the site include Bulgaria Air, Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Wizz Air.

Infrastructure consists of three terminals and specialized aviation facilities. Terminal 2, which opened in August 2013, occupies 18,000 square meters and includes 25 check-in desks. Terminal 3, opened in 2007, supports seasonal operations, while the VIP area of the 1972-era Terminal 1 remains in use. Operational capabilities include a parking apron with capacity for 24 aircraft and a runway equipped with an ILS CAT I system. Ground infrastructure includes Taxiway Echo, which underwent renewal in June 2023. The airport is integrated with local transport networks, situated near the Port of Varna and the regional railway system. Aircraft hosted at the facility include narrow-body types such as the Airbus A220, Airbus A320, and Boeing 737-800.
