Symbolism
The yellow stripe is said to represent solidarity, the green symbolizes peace, tranquility, and the country's lush environment, and the red signifies courage and decisiveness. The large white star in the center embodies the significance of the union of all the diverse ethnic groups within Myanmar. These colors and symbols were chosen to represent a new era of unity and progress for the nation.
History
This flag was adopted on October 21, 2010, replacing the previous socialist-era flag. The change occurred as part of a series of reforms initiated by the then-ruling military junta. The former flag had been in use since 1974 and featured different colors and symbols, reflecting the country's socialist ideology under Ne Win.
