Flag of Pakistan

The flag features a dark green field with a vertical white stripe positioned at the hoist side. Occupying the center of the green section are a white five-pointed star and a white crescent moon. The overall design is presented in a rectangular aspect ratio of 2:3.

The dark green field represents the Muslim majority of the nation, while the vertical white stripe symbolizes the various religious minorities. Progress is signified by the crescent moon, and the five-pointed star represents light and knowledge. These combined elements reflect the nation's dual commitment to Islamic identity and the protection of its diverse population.

Designed by Ameer-ud-din Khidwai, the national flag was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly on August 11, 1947. It is derived from the original flag of the All-India Muslim League, which served as a political symbol starting in 1906. The addition of the white stripe occurred during the transition to independence to distinguish the national banner from the party's emblem. Since its inception at the time of Partition, the design has remained unaltered.
