Description

The C-101 is an early Chinese supersonic anti-ship and air-to-surface cruise missile. Designated YJ-1 (Yingji-1) by the People's Liberation Army Navy and assigned the NATO reporting name CSS-X-5, the development program is described as unsuccessful.

The missile employs solid-fuel rocket boosters to reach initial supersonic speeds. Propulsion for the cruise and terminal phases is provided by two ramjets using kerosene propellant, which maintain a speed of Mach 2. The missile utilizes radar guidance for targeting. Its flight profile consists of a cruise phase at an altitude of 50 meters, followed by a descent to 5 meters for the terminal approach beginning three kilometers from the target. The system is equipped with a semi-armor-piercing warhead and is designed for launch from both air and surface platforms.

The C-101 is used by China.
