Missile PL-7
Description
The PL-7 is a short-range air-to-air missile developed in the People's Republic of China as a version of the French Magic R.550.
The missile utilizes infrared homing for guidance. It is designed for short-range aerial engagements and is integrated onto fighter aircraft.
The system is operated by the People's Liberation Army Air Force, the Iranian Air Force, and the Bangladesh Air Force. During the Second Congo War between 1998 and 2001, the Air Force of Zimbabwe modified BAE Hawk aircraft to carry PL-7 missiles. These aircraft were used for air interception missions in support of Zimbabwean and Laurent Kabila's government forces.
