Description
Improved Kilo-class (Project 636.3) diesel-electric submarine damaged on 13 September 2023 during the same Storm Shadow cruise missile strike that destroyed the landing ship Minsk at Sevmorzavod shipyard in Sevastopol. The submarine suffered a pierced bow and two hull breaches, with fire damage throughout. Satellite imagery confirmed significant structural damage. Rostov-on-Don was commissioned in 2014 as the second Project 636.3 submarine for the Black Sea Fleet and had previously launched Kalibr cruise missiles against targets in Syria and Ukraine.
