Description
Struck by Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces drones at Novorossiysk on the night of 5–6 April 2026, marking the frigate's second hit in five weeks after the March 2 attack. The Ptakhy (Birds) unit of the 1st Separate Centre carried out the operation, planned and coordinated by the SBU. Admiral Makarov launched Shtil-1 air defense missiles directly from its deck as the drones approached, but failed to prevent the strike. The USF commander initially misidentified the target as sister ship Admiral Grigorovich, later corrected by OSINT analysts who confirmed Grigorovich was deployed in the Mediterranean. Damage assessment ongoing.
