Description

The Segura class is a series of six mine countermeasures vessels built by Navantia (formerly Bazán/Izar) at Cartagena for the Spanish Navy. The design is derived from the British Sandown class, adapted with Spanish systems and construction techniques. The fiberglass-reinforced hulls minimize magnetic signature, and the ships are equipped with modern mine detection and neutralization systems. All six ships remain active in the Spanish Navy, operating from the Cartagena naval base as part of the Mine Countermeasures Squadron. Spain announced a modernization program for the class in 2023 to extend their operational life.
