EBRC Jaguar
Description
The Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance et de Combat (EBRC) Jaguar was developed as a central pillar of France’s SCORPION programme to modernize its armored reconnaissance capabilities. Launched in 2009 by a consortium of KNDS France, Arquus, and Thales, the vehicle was designed to replace the aging AMX-10 RC, ERC 90 Sagaie, and VAB HOT. After a twelve-year development cycle focusing on operational flexibility and high-intensity protection, the Jaguar officially entered service in 2022.
The Jaguar is a highly sophisticated 6x6 platform defined by its advanced vetronics and collaborative combat integration. Its primary armament consists of a 40mm Cased Telescoped Armament System, featuring a compact gun with high elevation for engaging ground targets and slow-moving aerial threats such as UAVs. This is supplemented by Akeron MP missiles for beyond-line-of-sight anti-tank capabilities and a remote-controlled weapon station. The vehicle is designed for high survivability, utilizing modular armor, blast-deflecting hull architecture, and the GALIX self-protection system. For situational awareness, the crew of three utilizes stabilized panoramic sights, acoustic gunfire localization, and laser warning receivers. Its mobility is enhanced by a quiet militarized engine, independent suspension, and variable ground clearance, allowing it to operate effectively in complex urban and mountainous environments.
Within the French Army, the Jaguar is being integrated into light cavalry regiments, with units such as the 1st African Chasseur Regiment and the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment among the first to receive the platform. Its operational role centers on intelligence gathering and combat within the "SCORPION bubble," where it shares real-time data with other networked vehicles via the SICS combat information system. This connectivity allows for collaborative combat, where one platform can instantaneously share target data with the rest of the battle group. Beyond its domestic use, the Jaguar has been selected for future service by the Belgian and Luxembourgish armed forces. To support long-term deployment, the vehicle features embedded health monitoring sensors for predictive maintenance, ensuring high operational availability in the field.
