Description
On April 13, 2025, the Bulgarian Air Force received its first Lockheed Martin F-16V (Block 70), marking its transition to Western-made frontline fighters. This delivery increases the active fleet by one aircraft and reduces the outstanding order backlog by one. Technically, the Block 70 variant features the Northrop Grumman APG-83 AESA radar and an enhanced structural service life of 12,000 hours. This acquisition represents Bulgaria's first new combat aircraft in 35 years, modernizing a fleet previously reliant on MiG-29 and Su-25 platforms. Seven additional jets are expected by late 2025, part of a total 16-aircraft procurement plan.
