India MiG-29 Fleet Update

On May 7, 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) reportedly lost one MiG-29 fighter aircraft during an aerial escalation with Pakistan. The incident occurred following Indian retaliatory strikes linked to regional tensions in Kashmir. Pakistan claimed the downing of the Soviet-designed, twin-engine multirole fighter, which is primarily utilized by the IAF for air superiority and dogfighting. Military analysts suggest the aircraft may have been intercepted by air-to-air or surface-to-air missile systems. This loss represents a decrease of one active unit in the IAF’s MiG-29 fleet, amid broader claims of multiple Indian aircraft and drone losses during the engagement.
