Description
On June 1, 2025, the Russian Air Force sustained a significant loss of eight Tu-95MS strategic bombers following a large-scale Ukrainian drone offensive designated "Operation Spiderweb." Coordinated strikes targeted multiple deep-rear installations, including Belaya and Olenya airbases. Technical reports from the Ukrainian SBU indicate the use of AI-enabled UAVs capable of autonomous navigation and terminal engagement during electronic warfare signal loss. Satellite imagery confirms the destruction of these airframes, several of which were armed with Kh-101 cruise missiles at the time of impact. This event marks a substantial technical degradation of Russia’s long-range aviation and strategic strike capabilities.
