Description
An Iranian Air Force KC-707-3J9C aerial refueling tanker was destroyed on the ground at Mashhad Airport in northeast Iran on 15 June 2025 during an Israeli long-range airstrike. The strike, covering approximately 2,300 km from Israeli territory, was one of the longest-range air operations in Israeli military history. The aircraft was Iran's only dedicated aerial refueling platform, originally a former Pan Am and Iran Air Boeing 707 converted for tanker duties. While its operational significance had diminished due to the poor state of Iran's fighter fleet, the loss carried strong symbolic weight. The strike was part of Israel's Operation Rising Lion.
