Description
On October 27, 2025, the United States Navy reported the loss of an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 73 (HSM-73). The aircraft, operating from the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) in the South China Sea, crashed during routine operations. This incident occurred within 30 minutes of an F/A-18F Super Hornet crash from the same carrier strike group. Technical investigations are currently evaluating "bad fuel" or contaminated propellant as a potential cause for the dual engine-related mishaps. All three crew members were safely recovered by search and rescue assets. This event marks a reduction of one MH-60R from active inventory.
