Description
On January 28, 2026, Iran received its first Mi-28NE Night Hunter attack helicopter from Russia, as confirmed by photographs showing the aircraft at Mehrabad International Airport near Tehran. The helicopter, painted in digital desert camouflage, represents a major upgrade for Iran's military aviation, which has relied on aging AH-1J Cobras delivered by the United States in the 1970s. The Mi-28NE features a 30mm chin-mounted gun and can carry guided missiles including Ataka anti-tank missiles and R-73 air-to-air missiles for drone hunting. The delivery deepens the Moscow-Tehran military axis amid heightened regional tensions.
