Description
On March 2, 2026, the Qatar Ministry of Defense announced that the Qatar Emiri Air Force shot down two Iranian Su-24 Fencer tactical bombers approaching Qatari airspace, marking the first crewed Iranian aircraft losses since the start of the US-Israeli Operation Epic Fury/Roaring Lion launched on February 28. Qatar also intercepted seven ballistic missiles and five drones in the same engagement. The specific weapon system used against the Su-24s was not disclosed, though Qatar operates Patriot and NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems, as well as F-15QA, Rafale, and Typhoon fighters.
