Description
Satellite imagery from March 9, 2026, confirmed the destruction of nine F-7N Airguard fighters at Isfahan Shahid Beheshti International Airport, home to Iran's 8th Tactical Fighter Base. The Chinese-made F-7, an export variant of the Chengdu J-7 derived from the Soviet MiG-21, formed a significant part of Iran's interceptor fleet. The aircraft were destroyed on the ground during a series of Israeli airstrikes under Operation Roaring Lion, which targeted over 400 sites across western and central Iran beginning March 7. The same strikes also destroyed multiple F-14 Tomcats at the airfield, effectively eliminating the base as a functioning military installation.
