Description
Adampur Airport, also known as Adampur Air Force Station, is a dual-use domestic airport and Indian Air Force base serving Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur in Punjab, India. It is located 6.7 km from Adampur town in Jalandhar district. The airport was constructed around the 1950s as a base for the Indian Air Force (IAF). It played a role in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, where it was targeted by the Pakistan Air Force, and in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, providing interceptor support for Pathankot base. During the Kargil War, aircraft from Adampur struck targets at Tigerhill, Muntho Dhalo, and Tololing. In 2017, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) completed a new passenger terminal, and commercial operations began in 2018. The base was reportedly targeted by drone and missile attacks during the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict. Adampur Air Force Station is an Indian Air Force airbase and is home to No. 47 Squadron IAF, which operates the Mikoyan MiG-29 UPG as part of Western Air Command. It is the second largest military airbase in India and is situated within 100 km of the India–Pakistan border. The base also features an underground hangar for the storage of MiG-29 and Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 interceptors.
