Description
Bagay-Baranovka, also known as Sennoy, is an air base located in Saratov Oblast, Russia, 2 km south of Sennoy. It is owned by the Ministry of Defence and operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces. The airfield was created in the early 1940s, named after the nearby village of Baranivka. During its early years, the 8th Reserve Fighter Aviation Regiment was based there, specializing in personnel training for Yak fighter aircraft and conducting flight tests with Yak aircraft produced by the Saratov Aviation Plant. The 894th Fighter Aviation Regiment was among the units successively set up by this regiment.
In 1955, a unit established on March 17, 1944, was reorganized into the 101st Separate Test Aviation Squadron. Until 1998, the 343rd Instructor Fighter Air Regiment, equipped with Sukhoi Su-17, Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23, and MiG-29 aircraft, was stationed at the airfield. On July 1, 1993, the 395th Separate Air Squadron for radiation, chemical, and biological defense was established by merging the 101st Separate Test Aviation Squadron and the 220th Separate Air Squadron relocated from Aralsk, Kazakhstan. In 1992, the 176th Fighter Aviation Regiment, flying MiG-29s, was briefly hosted at the base before being disbanded.
Since November 1, 2009, the base has been home to the 395th Independent Test Aviation Squadron, which was reorganized into the 929th Test Aviation Squadron of the Main Flight Test Center of V.P. Chkalov. It functions as a small training base with dedicated training airspace to the east.
