Description

Bareilly Airport, also known as Trishul Air Base, is a dual-use airport serving Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located at the Indian Air Force's Trishul Air Base in Izzatnagar, approximately 6 kilometers north of the city center. The airport is owned by the Indian Air Force and operated by the Airports Authority of India for its civilian enclave. The construction of a passenger terminal at Trishul Air Force Base was approved by the Airports Authority of India, with land acquired from local farmers. After initial delays due to requested changes in the taxiway layout by the Indian Air Force, passenger service commenced. The first passenger terminal began commercial operations in March 2019, covering 2,500 square meters and capable of handling 150 passengers during peak hours. A new apron was developed to accommodate two ATR-72 aircraft. An expansion project led to the inauguration of a new terminal building in March 2021, which is 3,020 square meters and can accommodate over 300 passengers, featuring two baggage conveyor belts and six check-in counters. A new apron for parking three Airbus A321 type aircraft was also part of this expansion. Trishul Air Force Base is one of the Indian Air Force's largest bases and is part of the Central Air Command. It hosts a squadron of Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighters and a helicopter squadron of HAL Dhruv. The base previously had Foxbat spyplanes and is noted for possessing what is considered one of Asia's largest underground hangars.
