Description

Cheongju Air Base is located in Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, specifically within Ipsang-ri, Naesu-eup. The facility serves the cities of Cheongju, Daejeon, and Sejong. It opened as a military airbase in September 1978. Construction for a co-located international airport began in 1984 and concluded in December 1996. The site officially opened as Cheongju International Airport on April 28, 1997.

The installation operates as a joint civil-military airport. It hosts the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) 17th Fighter Wing, which operates F-35A fighters. The base is adjacent to the Cheongju Airport station on the Chungbuk Line. Due to its status as a joint-use military facility, photography and videography are prohibited on the installation.
