Description
Gomel Airport is located three kilometers northeast of Gomel, Belarus. The facility was established in 1968, following the use of an earlier airfield that supported regional flights to Minsk and Kyiv as well as agricultural and sanitary aviation starting in the mid-1950s. The airport's infrastructure includes a concrete runway, which initially supported An-24 aircraft.
Historically, the airport functioned as the base of operations for Gomelavia until the company’s bankruptcy in February 2011. Since July 2011, the Belarusian carrier Belavia has utilized the site for seasonal services to Kaliningrad and later added charter flights to Thessaloniki and Burgas. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian military utilized the airport to conduct military operations. Documentation from the Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the facility was used as a base for launching air strikes against Ukrainian territory.
