Description
Hermosillo International Airport, officially designated as General Ignacio L. Pesqueira International Airport, is located in Hermosillo, Sonora. The current facility was inaugurated in 1982 to replace the former airfield at La Manga. Historically, the site served as a hub for regional carriers including Aviación del Noroeste from 1988 to 1999 and Aerolitoral until 2017.
The airport is managed by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico and operates as a joint civil-military facility. It houses Air Force Base No. 18 (BAM-18), which provides the primary infrastructure for several Mexican Air Force units. The 107th Air Squadron is stationed at the base, operating Cessna 182 and Pilatus PC-6 aircraft. The 3rd Air Surveillance Squadron operates C-26 Metroliner and Embraer 145 AEW&C platforms from these facilities. Additionally, the 204th Air Squadron operates Beechcraft T-6 Texan II aircraft. The airport also supports logistics and cargo operations for the Mexican Army and private carriers.
Infrastructure for military operations includes an aviation platform, three hangars, and dedicated accommodations for Air Force personnel. The civil sector features a passenger terminal and a general aviation terminal situated to the north. The facility maintains an apron for narrow-body aircraft, a general aviation apron for fixed-wing aircraft, and two heliports. Support infrastructure includes a dedicated cargo area and an on-site water treatment plant used for industrial processes and dust control. The airport serves as a primary alternate for flights diverted from Tijuana International Airport.
