Description
Hsinchu Air Base is located in the North District of Hsinchu City, Taiwan. Established on 19 May 1936 during the period of Japanese rule, the facility was originally designated Shinchiku Airdrome. On 25 November 1943, during the Pacific War, a joint force consisting of the United States Army Air Forces and the National Revolutionary Army conducted a surprise air raid against the installation, which resulted in the loss of a large number of Japanese military aircraft.
The base is operated by the Republic of China Air Force and hosts the 499th Tactical Fighter Wing. Stationed units include the 41, 42, and 48 Squadrons. The installation serves as the primary facility for squadrons of Mirage 2000-5 fighter aircraft.
