Description
Marinovka is a military air base of the Russian Aerospace Forces, operating as part of the 4th Air and Air Defence Forces Army within the Southern Military District. The base is located in Kalachyovsky District, Volgograd Oblast, Russia. As of 2022, it is home to the 11th Composite Aviation Regiment (11th SAP), which operates Sukhoi Su-24M/MR aircraft. Historically, the base hosted the 168th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment between 1991 and 1992, and the 296th Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment from 1993 to 1998. Following a Ukrainian drone strike on Morozovsk air base, some Su-34 and Su-24 aircraft were redeployed to Marinovka. Satellite imagery from August 19, 2024, showed approximately 15 Su-34s and 14 Su-24s at the base. During the Russo-Ukrainian War, Marinovka air base has been targeted by Ukrainian military drones. On August 22, 2024, an attack resulted in explosions and a fire, with the governor of Volgograd Oblast claiming most drones were intercepted. On June 27, 2025, another drone attack reportedly destroyed and damaged four Su-34 fighter bombers and hit the airfield's technical support section, which is used for aircraft maintenance and repair.
