Description
PAF Base Minhas is located in the Attock District of Punjab, Pakistan. Established in 1942 by the British Raj, the facility underwent modernization by the Pakistan Air Force in 1984. The base is named in honor of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas. It has supported military operations during the Soviet–Afghan War, Operation Sentinel, the War on Terror, and Operation Swift Retort.
The installation is operated by the Pakistan Air Force under Northern Air Command. It houses the 33 Tactical Wing, which includes No. 3 AEW&C Squadron, No. 15 MR Squadron, No. 16 MR Squadron, and No. 87 Combat Support Squadron.
Infrastructure at the base includes the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, which manufactures JF-17 Thunder, MFI-17 Mushshak, and Hongdu JL-8 aircraft. The complex also functions as a rebuild facility for Dassault Mirage and Chengdu F-7 platforms. Additional facilities located on the base include the Air University Kamra Campus and NASTP Kamra. The base operates squadrons of JF-17 multirole fighters and Saab 2000 Erieye airborne early warning and control aircraft.
