Description
Pugachyov air base, also known as Pugachyov Southeast, is a military airfield located 2 km north of Pugachyov in Saratov Oblast, Russia. Constructed in 1953, it has been in continuous use since then. While it served as a civilian airfield under the Soviet Union, it is currently a well-maintained military facility operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces. Until October 2011, it was the base for the 626th helicopter regiment. On April 14, 2016, the airfield began hosting training flights for 3rd-year cadets from the branch of the Military Training and Scientific Center of the Air Force "Air Force Academy named after Professor N.E.Zhukovsky and Yu.A.Gagarin." On December 1, 2023, the 2nd class training aviation base in Pugachev was officially formed, comprising three Mi-8 helicopter training squadrons. The base is currently home to the 626th Training Helicopter Regiment, which operates as part of the Zhukovsky – Gagarin Air Force Academy.
