Description

Sacheon Air Base is located in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and serves the city of Jinju. During the Korean War, the United States Air Force designated the facility as K-4. In 1950, the base was the site of the USAF Bout One project, which trained South Korean pilots to operate F-51 aircraft. The Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) 10th Fighter Wing was established at the base in 1951. Civilian passenger operations at the facility commenced in 1977.

The Republic of Korea Air Force operates the installation, which has served as the home of the Republic of Korea Air Force Education and Training Command since 1998. Resident units include the 3rd Flight Training Wing, the Air Force Test and Evaluation Wing, the 281st Flight Test Squadron, and the Air Force Basic Military Training Wing.

The base shares infrastructure with a civilian airport that includes a single-story domestic terminal and serves as a base for Hi Air. Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) maintains facilities on the north side of the airport for the manufacture of military aircraft and satellites. The ROKAF operates T-50 trainers and various testbed aircraft from the base. T-50 aircraft used by resident units are manufactured by the adjacent KAI plant. Because the facility is a joint-use military installation, photography and video recording of the apron and military infrastructure are restricted.
