Description
Voronezh Malshevo is an air base located in Voronezh Oblast, Russia, operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces and controlled by the 6th Air and Air Defence Forces Army, Western Military District. The base is also known by several other names, including Malshevo, Mal'shevo, Voronezh Southwest, and Voronezh Baltimor. As of 2024, satellite imagery indicates that runway 11/29 has been extended to 3.60 km. The primary air unit stationed at the base is the 47th Composite Guards Aviation Regiment, which operates two squadrons of Sukhoi Su-34s. Historically, up until late 2009, it served as the home of the 105th Composite Aviation Division and the 455th Bomber Aviation Regiment, both under the 16th Air Army / Special Purpose Command of the Moscow Military District. Following the air force reforms between 2009 and 2010, the base became the headquarters of the 7000th Air Base. This unit, designated as #23326, is the 7000th Guard Borisov-Pomeransk Double Red Banner Order Suvorov Airbase. In 2009, its planned staff included 24 Su-24M, 4 An-30, 1 Mi-8, and 2 Su-34 aircraft. By 2010, it operated 2 squadrons of Su-24M, 1 squadron of Su-24MR, Mig-25RB, and An-30 aircraft. A notable incident occurred on November 9, 2020, when a private allegedly killed an officer and two other soldiers, and wounded a fourth, before being apprehended.
