Description

Zapopan Air Force Base, officially designated Base Aérea Militar N° 5 Piloto Aviador Capitán Emilio Carranza Rodríguez (B.A.M. 5), is located in Zapopan, Jalisco, 14 kilometers northwest of the Guadalajara city center.

The facility serves as the location for the Colegio del Aire (Air College) and its subordinate educational institutions: the Escuela Militar de Aviación (Military Aviation School), the Escuela Militar de Mantenimiento y Abastecimiento (Military School of Maintenance and Supply), and the Escuela Militar de Especialistas de Fuerza Aérea (Military School of Air Force Specialists).

Operational units assigned to the base include the 105th Air Squadron, which operates Cessna 182 aircraft, and the 111th Air Squadron, which utilizes Bell 212 helicopters. The Air College Training Squadrons are also based at the installation, operating a fleet that includes Boeing-Stearman Model 75, Pilatus PC-7, Aermacchi SF-260, and Grob G 120TP aircraft.

Infrastructure at the installation consists of an apron with parking positions for narrow-body aircraft, multiple helipads, and seven hangars. Supporting facilities include a control tower and structures for housing Mexican Air Force personnel.
