Description
The RBK-500 entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1987. It is a cluster bomb configured to carry 15 "Motiv-3" SPBE-D antitank submunitions. These submunitions utilize a dual-mode infrared homing system for target acquisition.
The system has been adapted for use with the Unifitsirovannyi Modul Planirovaniya i Korrektsii (UMPK) standoff glide bomb kit. This integration provides the weapon with flight correction and standoff delivery capabilities.
The RBK-500 is operated by Russian forces. During the Russo-Ukrainian war, the system was deployed with UMPK kits against targets in Donetsk Oblast. In November 2023, the first combat use of the UMPK-equipped variant was documented near Staromaiorske.
