Blaser R93 Tactical

The Blaser R93 Tactical is a German bolt action sniper rifle based on the Blaser R93 hunting rifle line, which introduced the straight-pull action design. Manufactured by the German firearms manufacturer Blaser, several variants have been produced with different characteristics and production ranges.

The rifles utilize a straight-pull bolt action, allowing for faster follow-up shots compared to traditional turn bolt actions. An uncommon design feature is the 14-lug radial collet, which centers the cartridge upon chambering and contributes to accuracy. The design allows the barrel and sight to be quickly removed from the body of the rifle using two hex screws, for more compact carry. Barrel changes can be done quickly; an experienced individual can do it in under 60 seconds. The safety catch is located on the rear of the bolt, displaying a large red dot in the "fire" position. A feature of the bolt mechanism requires a slight forward push on the safety when unloaded with no magazine inserted to pull the bolt back. The rifles are designed to fire small groups with factory match ammunition.

Variants include:

R93 Tactical (1st gen): Produced from 1993 to 1997, it was available in a synthetic body model and also under UIT and CISM designations for competition.

This first generation used a detachable staggered feed double stack 10-round box magazine. Its chassis and barrel were compatible with the regular R93. UIT and CISM versions came with diopter sights.

R93 Tactical LRS2: Produced from 1997 to 2005, it is a ruggedized second generation also known as Long Range Sporter 2 (LRS-2).

It features a detachable single stack 5-round box magazine, a new design sometimes requiring different magazines for different calibers. The LRS stands for Long Range Sporter but is sometimes referred to as LRT for Long Range Tactical. A specific R93 Tactical LRS2 .338LM variant featured a large chassis version to accommodate this chambering.

Blaser R93 Tactical 2: In production from 2005 onwards, it is also a large chassis version.

Other less common variants mentioned are the R93 Duo Mod. Hamed, a double barreled side by side rifle, and the R93 Handgun Hunting System, an ultra short version with a pistol grip and no buttstock.

The R93 Tactical series has been adopted by various military and police forces internationally, including police forces in Germany and the Netherlands, as well as the Australian military and special police units. Other users include law enforcement in Argentina, the Comando de Operações Táticas (COT) Counter-Terrorism Forces of the Brazilian Federal Police, the Joint Special Operations Command of Bulgaria, the Danish AKS special police force, the Brigade d'Intervention of the Prefecture de Police de Paris, the Icelandic Police, Pasukan Khas Udara (PASKAU) of the Royal Malaysian Air Force and Special Task And Rescue Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in Malaysia, the Polish Border Guard, the Federal Protective Service and FSB of Russia, the Slovenian Police Special Forces, the "A Group" special unit of the Security Service of Ukraine, at least one UK Police Force (specifically Avon and Somerset Police), and the New Jersey State Police in the United States.
