Description
The OTs-23 Drotik is a blow-back operated machine pistol developed in Russia by I. Stechkin, A.V. Baltser, and A.V. Zinchenko; their initials form the alternative name SBZ. Very few of these firearms were manufactured, and the design served as the basis for the subsequent development of the OTs-33.
The OTs-23 Drotik, Russian for "dart," incorporates a three-position selector switch, providing safe, semi-automatic, and three-round burst firing modes, and features an external indicator to show the number of cartridges remaining in the magazine. Designed for special operations and as a personal defence weapon (PDW), the pistol includes compensator openings cut into the end of the barrel to manage gas expulsion and enhance stability during automatic burst fire. The action employs a blowback system, incorporating a principle similar to Pedersen's hesitation locking. It is chambered for the 5.45×18mm MPT cartridge.
This firearm is used in Russia. Its production quantity was very limited.
