Description

The Zastava M84 is a general-purpose machine gun manufactured by Zastava Arms. It is a licensed copy of the Soviet Union's PKM, with modifications that include a differently shaped stock, and a slightly longer and heavier barrel. The barrel also features slightly different diameter measurements at the gas port and forward of the trunnion.

The M84 is a gas-operated, air-cooled, belt-fed weapon capable of fully automatic fire. It is designed for shoulder firing and can be tripod-mounted for infantry support, similar to the PKS variant. It is intended for use against enemy infantry and light vehicles.

Variants include:

  • The standard M84, intended for infantry and configured for tripod mounting.

  • The M86, a tank machine gun designed for coaxial mounting on vehicles such as the M-84 tank, omits the stock, bipod, and iron sights, and features a heavier barrel and an electric trigger system, similar to the Russian PKMT.

  • The M86A, developed for external vehicle mounts, which retains the capability for dismounted use.
