This page describes how GlobalMilitary.net researches, writes, corrects and updates the coverage published in our News section, and the standards behind the data that powers the rest of the site.

How We Work

GlobalMilitary.net is a data publication before it is a news site. We maintain a structured database of military inventories, equipment specifications, bases and fleet events, and we update it daily: new deliveries, losses, commissionings and retirements are researched daily, checked against sources, and written into the database with their citations before anything is published about them.

Our news coverage grows out of that routine. We publish daily, and every article is anchored to the record behind it — an event entry with its sources, an inventory figure with its snapshot year, a tracked conflict series. We curate rather than aggregate: a story only runs when we can verify it, source it and connect it to the data we maintain. We would rather publish nothing on a slow day than restate an unverified wire claim.

Sourcing Standards

• Every news article cites its sources, with direct links, in a dedicated Sources block at the end of the article.
• We require at least two credible, independent sources for a news story — or one primary source, such as an official government release, a procurement notice or a manufacturer announcement.
• We prioritize primary documents and established independent defense outlets. State-controlled media are never used as the sole source for a claim, particularly on contested events.
• Claims that cannot be adequately sourced are not published. Events involving unidentified equipment are held back until the type can be established.

Data and Methodology

Much of our coverage draws on GlobalMilitary.net's own database of military inventories, equipment specifications and fleet events. How our indexes — the ATLAS Index, the AIRS Index, the SEAS Index and the ARMS Index — are computed is documented in full, weights and formulas included, on our Methodology page.

Data Transparency

Military data ages, and a figure without a date is close to worthless. Every editorial pass over our database — a new inventory year, a corrected specification, a routine re-check against current sources — is recorded in an update journal, entry by entry: what was touched, whether it was created, modified or merely verified against sources, and which sources were consulted. Nothing is silently overwritten.

That journal is what you see on the site. Most detail pages carry a Latest Data Updates panel listing their recent passes with dates, and the "Updated" date shown on a page comes from the same record — so a page that was checked but found accurate is marked as verified without pretending its content is new. The same dates feed the structured data search engines read, which means our freshness claims are identical whether you are a reader, a crawler or a machine consuming the site.

Bylines and AI Assistance

Articles are signed GlobalMilitary.net Staff — a collective byline, and a deliberate choice. Our newsroom is a small desk, not a roster of correspondents: we use research tools, including AI assistance, to monitor sources and prepare drafts, and human editorial review decides what is published.

Before publication, every article is reviewed: facts are checked against the cited sources, figures against our database, and wording against the sourcing standards above. Article illustrations are typically AI-generated renderings — flags, silhouettes, generic scenes — not photographs of the events described, and are captioned as illustrations.

Corrections and Updates

When we materially correct or update a published article, it displays an "Updated" date alongside the original publication date. If you spot an error — in an article or in our database — write to [email protected] with a source we can check; substantiated corrections are applied promptly.

Independence and Advertising

Our editorial and data content is not sponsored. Advertising on GlobalMilitary.net is served through clearly identifiable ad slots and has no influence on what we cover or how we rank military forces.
