Description
Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine, decommissioned in January 2026 after nearly 37 years of service. Newport News departed Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut, for the final time on 16 January 2026, heading to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington, for defueling and scrapping. Commissioned on 3 June 1989, she was involved in a notable incident when she struck the Japanese tanker Mogamigawa while submerged in the Arabian Sea in January 2007.
