Description
The UMPK (Unified gliding and correction module) was first proposed in 2002. It entered service in 2023.
The system is a guidance kit designed to convert unguided Soviet bombs into precision-guided glide bombs. The module attaches to FAB-series bombs and incorporates pop-out wings to facilitate gliding. Guidance is achieved through a combination of GLONASS satellite positioning and inertial navigation systems (INS). The system is functionally similar to the American JDAM-ER.
Russia is the operator of the system. The Russian Air Force has used the UMPK during the Russo-Ukrainian war.
